WKU Forensic Team Members Capture
19 Individual Titles

Bowling Green, Ky. - Members of the Western Kentucky University Forensic Team captured 19 individual titles in weekend competitions at three locations.

The WKU squad of 20 members placed second overall at the North Central College/Northern Illinois University Swing sponsored by the Mid-American Forensic League. A second group of six individual events competitors placed third overall at the James Mason University/

George Mason University Swing. Eight WKU debaters also competed at the William Jewell College Invitational.

Individual results from MAFL Swing are as follows:

Maggie Waid, a Symsonia sophomore, tournament champion in duo interpretation (with partner James Victery), sixth in prose interpretation in the North Central portion; tournament champion in duo interpretation (with Victery) in the NIU portion.

James Victery, an Indianapolis freshman, tournament champion in duo interpretation (with partner Maggie Waid) in the North Central portion; tournament champion in duo interpretation (with Waid) in the NIU portion.

Rachel Wigginton, a Glendale freshman, tournament champion in novice poetry, fourth in communication analysis in the North Central portion; second in novice prose, fourth in communication analysis in the NIU portion.

Saeed Jones, a sophomore from Lewisville, Texas, tournament champion in impromptu speaking, third in duo interpretation (with partner Ashley Litsey) in the North Central portion; fifth in impromptu speaking, sixth in duo interpretation (with Litsey) in the NIU portion.

Chris Brasfield, a Bowling Green senior, second in dramatic interpretation, second in prose interpretation in the North Central portion; tournament champion in prose interpretation in the NIU portion.

Ben Pyle, a sophomore from Harrisburg, Ill., tournament champion in prose interpretation in the North Central portion; fourth in prose interpretation in the NIU portion.

Cornelius Lee, a freshman from Killeen, Texas, second in programmed oral interpretation, fourth in duo interpretation (with partner J.D. VanSlyke) in the North Central portion; second in programmed oral interpretation, fourth in duo interpretation (with VanSlyke) in the NIU portion.

J.D. VanSlyke, a freshman from Wyle, Texas, fourth in duo interpretation (with partner Cornelius Lee) in the North Central portion; fourth in duo interpretation (with Lee), fourth in after dinner speaking, fourth in novice prose in the NIU portion.

Lydia Nelson, a junior from Carver, Mass., sixth in informative speaking in the North Central portion; second in dramatic interpretation, third in informative speaking in the NIU portion.

Nick Courtney, a freshman from Morristown, Tenn., sixth in persuasive speaking in the North Central portion; third in novice prose, fifth in persuasive speaking in the NIU portion.

Ashley Litsey, a Hodgenville freshman, third in duo interpretation (with partner Saeed Jones) in the North Central portion; fifth in dramatic interpretation, sixth in duo interpretation (with Jones) in the NIU portion.

Natalie Sintek, a sophomore from Eagan, Minn., third in prose interpretation in the North Central portion; sixth in programmed oral interpretation in the NIU portion.

Ashley Brasfield, a Mayfield senior, fourth in oral interpretation in the North Central portion; fourth in programmed oral interpretation in the NIU portion.

Ben Unanaowo, a sophomore from Union City, Calif., fifth in poetry interpretation in the North Central portion; fourth in poetry interpretation in the NIU portion.

Barry Fields, a Bowling Green junior, second in impromptu speaking in the NIU portion.

Stephanie Youroukos, a junior from Mt. Vernon, Ill., third in after dinner speaking in the North Central portion.

Individual results for the JMU/GMU Swing are as follows:

Ryan Howell, a senior from Plymouth, Ind., tournament champion in programmed oral interpretation, third in prose interpretation in the JMU portion; tournament champion in prose interpretation, tournament champion in programmed oral interpretation, seventh in poetry interpretation in the GMU portion.

David Tuck, a freshman from Alexandria, Va., tournament champion in poetry interpretation, tournament champion in duo interpretation (with partner Micah Mason) in the JMU portion; tournament champion in poetry interpretation, third in duo interpretation (with Mason) in the GMU portion.

Melissa Messer, a San Antonio junior, tournament champion in communication analysis, fifth in prose interpretation in the JMU portion; tournament champion in communication analysis, seventh in prose interpretation in the GMU portion.

Nick Romerhausen, a senior from Evansville, Ind., fifth in persuasive speaking, fifth in extemporaneous speaking, sixth in impromptu speaking in the JMU portion; tournament champion in impromptu speaking, second in extemporaneous speaking, fourth in persuasive speaking in the GMU portion.

Micah Mason, a freshman from Desoto, Texas, tournament champion in duo interpretation (with partner David Tuck), third in poetry interpretation in the JMU portion; second in poetry interpretation, third in duo interpretation (with Tuck) in the GMU portion.

Grace Bruenderman, a Lexington senior, fifth in poetry interpretation in the GMU portion.

Debate results for the William Jewell Invitational are as follows:

Joelle Perry, a Florence junior, and Megan Schrader, a freshman from Lowell, Ark., advanced to the octafinal round of parliamentary debate. Perry was also the top speaker in parliamentary debate.

Justin Cress, a Florence senior, and Keyon Shokraie, a freshman from Somis, Calif., advanced to the double-octafinal round of parliamentary debate.
