Bowling Green, Ky. - A faculty member and two undergraduate students from Western Kentucky University’s Biology Department attended an annual microbiology meeting Sept. 30-Oct. 1 in Nashville, Tenn.

Assistant professor Rodney King and students Courtney Miles and Ali Wright made presentations at the meeting of the Kentucky Tennessee branch of the American Society for Microbiology.

Miles, a junior from Sanders, Ky., presented a poster titled “The Immunity Region of Bacteriophage HK639 Encodes an Antiterminator RNA.”

Wright, a senior from Wake Forest, N.C., presented a poster titled “Superinfection Exclusion by Bacteriophage HK239 is Mediated by More than One Gene Product.”

Student presenters were awarded student membership in the American Society for Microbiology, which includes a subscription to ASM News, the society’s monthly magazine.

Dr. King gave a talk titled “RNA-mediated antitermination” and was elected for a second term as Branch Councilor.
