WKU Forensic Team Takes First Place At Three Tournaments
Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University’s Forensic Team took first-place honors in three weekend competitions.
WKU dominated the competition at the Bradley University “Norton” Invitational in Peoria, Ill., as nine team members won tournament championships. The Nov. 4-5 tournament featured the strongest field of competitors the team has faced thus far this season. Western was the tournament sweepstakes champion, placing ahead of Illinois State University, University of Texas-Austin, Kansas State University and George Mason University. WKU debaters captured debate and overall team sweepstakes awards at the Central Missouri State University Swing Tournament in Warrensburg, Mo. A second group of debaters placed first in debate sweepstakes at the St. Anselm College Invitational in Manchester, N.H. Individual results from the Bradley University “Norton” Invitational: Natalie Sintek, a sophomore from Eagan, Minn., tournament champion in after dinner speaking, programmed oral interpretation and duo interpretation (with partner Lydia Nelson). Lydia Nelson, a junior from Carver, Mass., tournament champion in informative speaking and duo interpretation (with partner Natalie Sintek), third in dramatic interpretation. Saeed Jones, a sophomore from Lewisville, Texas, tournament champion in poetry interpretation, second in individual sweepstakes, second in impromptu speaking, fourth in after dinner speaking. Cornelius Lee, a freshman from Killeen, Texas, tournament champion in novice duo (with partner J.D. VanSlyke), second in novice prose interpretation, second in novice programmed oral interpretation. Ashley Brasfield, a Mayfield senior, tournament champion in dramatic interpretation, third in persuasive speaking, fourth in informative speaking. Chris Brasfield, a Bowling Green senior, tournament champion in persuasive speaking, fifth in programmed oral interpretation. J.D. VanSlyke, a freshman from Wylie, Texas, tournament champion in novice duo interpretation (with partner Cornelius Lee), semifinalist in novice prose interpretation. Nick Courtney, a freshman from Morristown, Tenn., tournament champion in novice prose interpretation. Ashley Litsey, a Hodgenville freshman, tournament champion in novice informative speaking. Nick Romerhausen, a senior from Evansville, Ind., second in persuasive speaking, third in impromptu speaking. Rachel Wigginton, a Glendale freshman, third in novice communication analysis, fourth in novice prose interpretation. Joel Smith, a Murray sophomore, fourth in poetry interpretation, fifth in duo interpretation (with partner Courtney Wright). Ryan Brown, a Morehead freshman, fourth in novice duo interpretation (with partner Maria Wallace), sixth in novice persuasive speaking. Ryan Howell, a senior from Plymouth, Ind., third in programmed oral interpretation, semifinalist in poetry interpretation. Maria Wallace, a Bardstown freshman, fourth in novice duo interpretation (with partner Ryan Brown), semifinalist in novice prose. Courtney Wright, a senior from Evansville, Ind., fifth in duo interpretation (with partner Joel Smith), semifinalist in impromptu speaking. Ben Unanaowo, a sophomore from Union City, Calif., second in poetry interpretation. Micah Mason, a freshman from Desoto, Texas, second in novice poetry interpretation. Beth Berger, a Lexington sophomore, third in informative speaking. David Tuck, a freshman from Alexandria, Va., third in novice poetry interpretation. James Victery, an Indianapolis freshman, sixth in novice communication analysis. Benjamin Pyle, a sophomore from Harrisburg, Ill., semifinalist in poetry interpretation. Maggie Waid, a Symsonia sophomore, semifinalist in prose interpretation.

Keyon Shokraie, a junior from Somis, Calif, tournament champion in extemporaneous speaking, tournament champion in impromptu speaking, octofinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate in the CMSU portion; second in extemporaneous speaking in the alumni portion. Justin Cress, a Florence senior, semifinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate in the CMSU portion; tournament champion in impromptu speaking, third in extemporaneous speaking in the alumni portion. Megan Schrader, a freshman from Lowell, Ark., second in parliamentary debate (with partner Joelle Perry), third speaker in parliamentary debate, octofinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate in the CMSU portion.
