Bowling Green, Ky. - Reflection is a major part of an historic milestone like Western’s Centennial, which kicked off in mid-November. But, as everyone knows, time moves on, history continues to be made. University Libraries (UL) will do that – make history that is -- on December 1st. The historical happening will be the Libraries’ BLOG launch, the first for a WKU unit, and, possibly, the first among libraries in Kentucky’s institutions for higher education.

Blogs – short for Weblogs – are not new; individuals have maintained them for quite sometime. But at Western, a unit blog is ground breaking – at least for now. Soon they will be common, once a University-wide committee of “techy types” established by Vice President for Information Technology Richard Kirchmeyer completes policies, guidelines and procedures.

UL’s representative on the Kirchmeyer committee is Haiwang Yuan, Website and Virtual Library Coordinator, who’s a technology whiz. Profiting from his Kirchmeyer committee involvement and extensive technological know-how, Yuan, plus colleagues who serve on the newly established UL Blog Planning Task Force, a part of the Libraries Web Site Team, created the soon-to-be launched blog.

Like most library blogs, UL’s is designed to enhance patron services and to improve communication. It has up-to-the-minute news about library events, new acquisitions, information on useful resources, tips on researching, links to other strategic sites, and perhaps best of all, an opportunity for users to comment or provide feedback.
