Bowling Green, Ky. - Students in Western Kentucky University’s School of Journalism and Broadcasting are launching an online magazine and are seeking staff members.

"I think that it is important to have an online magazine for college students on Western’s campus because students asked for the magazine," said Dr. Pam Johnson, director of the School of Journalism and Broadcasting.

Dr. Johnson said a survey conducted by journalism students showed that WKU students wanted an online magazine that would cover broader topics and offer an outlet for expressing their opinions.

The magazine, created and managed by WKU students, will provide a format for students to engage in discussion with writers and other students on topics such as lifestyles, health issues and entertainment. Students will have an opportunity to submit work such as photo stories, broadcast segments and creative writing.

Applications are available online at www.wku.edu/Journalism. The application deadline is Monday, Nov. 14.

"I am impressed that two students took their idea and ran with it in such a professional manner," Dr. Johnson said. "Now, they are in a position to launch a significant campus publication. They are not getting course credit or pay for launching this online magazine. What they are getting is leadership and collaborative skills with this service for the university."
