WKU Programs In American Democracy
Project Win Awards

Bowling Green, Ky. - Two Western Kentucky University programs were honored at the inaugural ADP (American Democracy Project) South Conference held at Clayton State University in Morrow, Ga.

Awards were given for the WKU Constitution Week and WKU Get out the Vote program. Dr. Saundra Ardrey, head of the Political Science Department, accepted the award on behalf of Constitution Week activities. Molly Kerby of University College and Women’s Studies accepted the award for Election 2004: Engagement Campus-Wide. Both awards were in the category of Campus-Wide Projects. The only other school to win two prizes was Morehead State University

Six WKU faculty, staff and students attended the ADP South Conference last weekend. The purpose of the ADP South organization is to provide support for campus ADP leaders and to recognize the efforts of campuses, organizations, faculty, administrators and students whose work contributes to the goals of ADP National.

The ADP South is a product of the Southern Consortium of the American Democracy Project which includes schools from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia. Other noteworthy programs at WKU represented at ADP South included: Organizing the NY Times for Learning Success, Sally Kuhlenschmidt; Using the New York Times in Broad-Scope Management Courses, Gabe Buntzman; German Majors Learned about and Helped Influence Education Policy in Kentucky, Laura McGee; Student Initiatives for Encouraging Student Engagement, Katie Dawson; and First Amendment First, Pam Johnson.
