President Of Toyota Motor Manufacturing
Bowling Green, Ky. - Gary Convis, president of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky, will be the keynote speaker for the 2006 Global Automotive Conference.
The seventh annual conference is scheduled for April 11-13 in Bowling Green. The Global Automotive Conference is administered by Western Kentucky University's Office of Global Business. Toyota recently announced plans to build its first North American hybrid at the Georgetown plant, which has manufactured the Camry since 1988. The company, which plans to build 48,000 hybrid versions of the Camry annually, will spend about $10 million and add 100 jobs to the 7,000-worker plant. Convis joined Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky, Inc., as executive vice president in 2000 and assumed his current post as president in 2001. In 2003, he was made managing officer at Toyota Motor Corporation. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1964 with a degree in mathematics. Upon graduation, he joined General Motors Buick Motor Company. In October 1966, Convis joined Ford Motor Company. Over the next 18 years, he worked in manufacturing, engineering and quality control. In 1984, he joined New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc. as plant general manager responsible for manufacturing operations and personnel. In 1987, he assumed the responsibilities of vice president of manufacturing, becoming a senior vice president in 1994 and executive vice president in 1997. Convis and his wife, Debbie, reside in Lexington. In his spare time, he enjoys playing golf, boating and riding motorcycles.
