High School Journalists Receive
Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University's Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists hosted its 25th Mark of Excellence Newspaper and Broadcasting awards ceremony March 11 at Mass Media and Technology Hall Auditorium.
Merv Aubespin, former associate editor of The Courier-Journal, was the guest speaker. About 260 students from 13 schools attended the awards ceremony which included the new James L. Highland High School Media Adviser of the Year Awards. Gina Aldridge of Radcliff, Jill Lewis of Corbin and Gail McCrady of Leitchfield received this prestigious honor. Twenty-six Kentucky high school media programs from Paducah to Crestwood entered the 2005 competition. Schools were judged in three divisions based on size. Results are as follows: Class AA Best Feature Writer: first, Georgianna Carter, Corbin; second, Luke Arterburn, Paducah Tilghman; third, Pam McGee, Monroe County; honorable mention: Jimae Boyd, Moore Traditional Best Editorial Writer: first, Holly Yokley, Monroe County;
