Bowling Green, Ky. - Gov. Ernie Fletcher will help recognize 194 new National Board Certified Teachers on Thursday night at Western Kentucky University's South Campus.

The governor is scheduled to speak at 7:15 p.m. at the Carroll Knicely Conference Center. The recognition dinner begins at 6 p.m.

The teachers have completed certification through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. Kentucky will now have 733 National Board Certified Teachers with 494 others awaiting results and 245 more working on the certification process.

The mission of the NBPTS is to advance the quality of teaching and learning by maintaining high and rigorous standards for what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do; providing a national voluntary system certifying teachers who meet these standards; and advocating related education reforms to integrate National Board Certification in American education and to capitalize on the expertise of National Board Certified Teachers.
