Bowling Green, Ky. - Comedian extraordinaire Rickey Smiley has performed for sold out crowds in Madison Square Garden, the Universal Amphitheatre and the Lincoln Center. He hosts BET's highly popular comedy showcase "ComicView" and appears in the films "Friday after Next" and "All About the Benjamins."
On Monday, Feb. 21, Smiley will give two performances at Western Kentucky University's Van Meter Auditorium.
Smiley has established himself as a clean comic with down home southern humor and has become a favorite in the nation's top clubs. Smiley is best known for his outrageous trademark characters. Audience members can't get enough of Ms. Bernice's church announcements and Coach McClainey's lack of motivational skills. Smiley's four comedy CD's include these characters, as well as others.
Smiley will be accompanied by comedian Steve Brown. Brown travels to clubs and colleges across the country and is known for his high-pitched voice and high-energy physical antics. He has also appeared on "Comic View" and "Def comedy Jam."
R&B/gospel singer Adrianne Archie will be opening for Smiley and Brown. Archie, a 23-year-old Louisville native, is known for captivating the mind, soul and spirit of listeners. She is the winner of the 2004 Spike Davis "Can you Rock the Mic" competition.
The performances will be at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $15; advance student tickets for the 6 p.m. show only are $5. Tickets for both shows go on sale Monday, Feb. 7, at Downing University Center, room 326.
