Western's Public Radio Earns
National AP Recognition

January 05, 2005

Bowling Green, Ky. - The Public Radio Service of Western Kentucky University has been honored by the National Associated Press Managing Editors Association.

The national organization issued a citation of appreciation to WKYU-FM for outstanding participation in the Associated Press News Report.

The citation states that the station "consistently shares breaking news throughout the year with AP. The contributions are important to AP's coverage of the region." The citation is signed by Deanna Sands of the Omaha World-Herald, the president of the AP Managing Editors Association.

WKYU-FM was the leading contributor to the Kentucky Associated Press for 2004. The station submitted more stories to the news cooperative than any other radio or television station in the state.

News Director Dan Modlin says the citation is based in large part on extra effort. "Our whole staff takes the extra time to share information with AP, because we believe in the cooperative nature of news gathering. Morning Edition host Joe Corcoran, in particular, has played a key role in earning this recognition," Modlin said.

Western's Public Radio includes WKYU-FM in Bowling Green, WDCL-FM in Somerset, WKUE-FM in Elizabethtown and WKPB-FM in Henderson/Owensboro.
