Bowling Green, Ky. - A Western Kentucky University accounting professor and five WKU students recently
returned from the United Kingdom where they spent two weeks in an in-depth study abroad program focusing on accounting and auditing issues in the international marketplace.
The students studied under Jan Colbert, the James R. Meany Professor of Accounting, in the course "Introduction to International Accounting and Auditing." The course was offered through the Cooperative Center for Study Abroad, a consortium of universities of which WKU is a member.
WKU students participating included Brandy Hoover of Hopkinsville, Carla Parker of Russellville, Storie Quast of Bowling Green, Angela Morgan of Scottsville and Heather Tyree of Bowling Green.
Highlights of the trip included visits to the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales, the London Stock Exchange and the Bank of England.
The class studied accounting and auditing issues in the context of the businesses of tourism, literature, government and religion in excursions to Buckingham Palace, Stratford-on-Avon, the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, Westminster Abbey and St. Paul's Cathedral. Other sites visited included Kensington Palace, Dover Castle and the World War II Dover Tunnels, the Tower of London Castle, Stonehenge, Bath and Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum.
