Bowling Green, Ky. - The Western Kentucky University Office of Continuing Education is offering the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) National Certification Preparation Course this spring in Hopkinsville.

The class provides participants with an overview of key areas in human resource management and is designed for staff and managers with experience in general management or human resource management.

The core content of the course includes strategic management, workforce planning and employment, human resource development, compensation and benefits, employee and labor relations, and occupational, health, safety and security.

According to Sharon Woodward, Continuing Education Program Director for the WKU Division of Extended Learning and Outreach (DELO), this program has many benefits. "Besides being a powerful tool in preparing for Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification, this course will enable participants to become more confident in managing HR challenges," she said. "In addition to people currently working in HR, this will be a great course for experienced managers who are new to the HR field."

The SHRM Certification Preparation Course will be held on Tuesday evenings, March 1 through May 10 at the Murray State University Regional Campus in Hopkinsville.
