WKU Recognizes Honor Graduates At Commencement

Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University recognized 10 honor graduates Saturday during the 158th Commencement.

The winners of the Ogden Trustees’ Award had a 4.0 grade-point average with all coursework completed at WKU. Scholars of the College had the highest GPAs in their colleges while completing at least 64 credit hours at WKU.

Trisha Hale, a sociology major from Goodlettsville, Tenn., was named scholar of the Potter College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. She is the wife of Jason Hale and the daughter of Garnett and Sue Baize.

Julie Civello, a Spanish and economics major from Lebanon Junction, was named scholar of the Potter College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. She is the daughter of David and Deborah Civello.

Ryan Fletcher, a history and religious studies major from Thompsonville, Ill., was named scholar of the Potter College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. He is the son of Gary and Marg Fletcher.

Veronica Horner, a finance major from Goodlettsville, Tenn., was named scholar of the Gordon Ford College of Business. She is the daughter of Jerry Horner and Vickie VanHooser.

Jennifer Paslay, a psychology major from Winchester, Ill., was named scholar of the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences. She is the daughter of R.J. and Janet Paslay.

Jennifer Pickerel, an elementary education major from Glasgow, was named scholar of the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences and received the Ogden Trustees’ Award. She is the wife of Brian Pickerel and the daughter of Jeff and Debbie Simmons.

Cara Nichols, a physical education major from Bowling Green, was named scholar of the College of Health and Human Services and received the Ogden Trustees’ Award. She is the daughter of Dale and Kathy Nichols.

Shelby Cotton, a hospitality management and dietetics major from Bowling Green, was named scholar of the College of Health and Human Services and received the Ogden Trustees’ Award. She is the daughter of Doyle and Marietta Cotton of Nolensville, Tenn.

Lori Vanzant, a general studies major from Russellville, was named scholar of the Interdisciplinary Studies program and received the Ogden Trustees’ Award. She is the wife of Jamie Vanzant and the daughter of Judy Soiter and the late Ronnie Switzer.

Emily Branstetter, an agriculture major from Hardyville, was named scholar of the Ogden College of Science and Engineering. She is the daughter of Billy and Melinda Branstetter.

WKU conferred degrees to 1,215 students -- 126 associate, 788 baccalaureate, 297 master’s, two specialist and two cooperative doctoral degrees. About 700 students participated in the ceremony at Diddle Arena.
