WKU Alumni, Fund-Raising Programs Win State Awards

December 09, 2005

Bowling Green, Ky. - The Division of Institutional Advancement at Western Kentucky University received several honors at the annual meeting of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education in Kentucky.

The division received the highest award given by CASE Kentucky for overall alumni relations program, excellence in feature writing and audio-visual communications for “The Spirit of Western” television commercials Friday in Louisville.

WKU has been recognized for the best overall alumni program for four consecutive years.

“We are proud to receive this recognition from our colleagues,” said Tom Hiles, WKU’s vice president for Institutional Advancement. “The award represents excellent work by our staff and acknowledges the tremendous alumni support we receive.”

The division received awards of excellence for total educational fundraising programs, fundraising projects for major and planned giving programs and magazines for The Western Scholar.

The division received awards of merit for media relations projects for the Clinical Education Complex and magazines for the Alumni magazine.

“These are team awards and our division always takes a team approach,” Hiles said. “As is often said, it is amazing how much can be accomplished when no one worries who receives the credit.”

Bob Edwards, WKU’s assistant vice president for University Relations, served as president of CASE Kentucky this year.
