Photojournalist Burnett To Have
Gallery Opening At WKU

Bowling Green, Ky. - Photojournalist David Burnett will visit Western Kentucky University on Sept. 12 for a gallery opening and lecture at Mass Media and Technology Hall.

The gallery opening begins at 6 p.m. at the School of Journalism and Broadcasting Gallery followed by the lecture at 7:30 p.m. at the MMTH Auditorium. All students, faculty, staff and the public are invited to attend.

Burnett has been photographing the world for more than 35 years. He graduated from Colorado College in 1968 and began working as a free lancer for Time, and later Life Magazine, in Washington, D.C., Miami and South Vietnam. After two years in Vietnam and the demise of Life weekly, he joined the French photo agency Gamma, traveling the world for its news department for two years.

In 1975 he co-founded Contact Press Images in New York. For the last three decades, he has traveled extensively, working for most of the major photographic and general interest magazines in the United States and Europe.

His numerous awards include Magazine Photographer of the Year from the Pictures of the Year Competition, the World Press Photo of the Year and the Robert Capa Award from the Overseas Press Club. In the current issue of American Photo magazine Burnett was named one of the "100 Most Important People in Photography."

Burnett continues working around the world, having traveled to more than 75 countries, producing photographic essays for Time, Fortune, ESPN Magazine and many others as well as working on major advertising campaigns, including Union Bank of Switzerland, Kodak, Rolex, Merck and the U.S. Army.
