Bowling Green, Ky. - About 600 students from across Kentucky will compete in Saturday's State Science Olympiad at Western Kentucky University.
Teams from 20 high schools and 20 middle schools will compete in 23 events, including life science, chemistry, physics, astronomy, geography, robotics, engineering, meteorology, biology, health science, environmental science, forestry and computer science.
The top two teams in high school and middle school will advance to the national competition May 20-21 at the University of Illinois.
The competition begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 2:15 p.m. at various campus locations, including facilities in the Ogden College of Science and Engineering. Among the events are Storm the Castle and Bottle Rockets at 10:15 a.m. at the Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center Amphitheater and robotics events at 9 a.m. at the Complex for Engineering and Biological Sciences and 10:15 a.m. at Garrett Conference Center Auditorium.
