Bowling Green, Ky. - Ken Farmer, one of the most popular and highly respected appraisers on PBS' "Antiques Roadshow," will be the featured appraiser at the Kentucky Library and Museum's second annual "Appraisal Day," 10am – 3pm, Saturday, May 21, at the Kentucky Building.

This year, appraisals will be given on "Tools, Toys and Textiles," and Farmer will be appraising mainly tools, even though he is also qualified to appraise musical instruments, furniture, art, folk art and decorative arts. Farmer will be assisted by David Chelf, certified appraiser and owner of David Chelf Auctions/Real Estate, Smiths Grove.

Toy appraisals will be handled by two people: Eric Jodlbaur, who is with the Cecil County Historical Society, Elkton, Md., and Timothy Mullin, head, WKU Library Special Collections. Textile appraisers will be Helen Thompson, from Lexington, Ky., who will be appraising quilts and coverlets, and Mary Teloh, Nashville, who specializes in a variety of textiles and vintage clothing. Sandy Staebell, Museum Registrar, will be assisting the textile appraisers.

There's more! At 7pm, Ken Farmer will be featured at an informal gathering for sponsors, Library/Museum Associates and other special guests to have an additional opportunity to interact with him. Following a reception and dinner, Farmer will appraise a limited number of items for sponsors and talk about his experiences on the "Antiques Roadshow," where he has been a guest appraiser since 1995. Cost to attend the evening event is $15 for Associates, $20 for others wishing to participate.

There's more still! To begin to position this annual event as a full-blown antiques show -- with appraisals -- invitations have been sent to area antique dealers, inviting them to set up booths and sell antiques. This year, dealers are limited to five and display space will go to the first responders. Next year, the show will be expanded to include dozens of antique dealers.

"Tools, Toys and Textiles" are very popular collector items, and a huge crowd is expected on May 21st. Appraisals will cost $5 per item, with a limit of two per person. All appraisals will be verbal only.
