WKU Hosting Speech And
Debate Workshop Saturday
September 08, 2004
Bowling Green, Ky. - Middle and high school students as well as their coaches and parents from around the Commonwealth will be visiting Western Kentucky University this weekend for hands-on instruction in competitive speech and debate.
WKU Forensics and the Kentucky High School Speech League, Inc. will host the Super Saturday Workshop on Saturday, Sept. 11. The conference will feature lectures and demonstrations from the national and world champion WKU Forensics Team. The day's activities, which begin with registration at 9 a.m. at Garrett Conference Center, include question and answer sessions, one-on-one training for new coaches and competition tips.
The workshop is geared for both novice and experienced students and coaches. Participation in forensics not only increases students' skills in public speaking but also critical analysis and writingskills essential for academic excellence and civic engagement. For the WKU students participating in the workshop, the conference acts as a chance to further develop forensics across the state by employing different techniques used by their previous high schools around the country.
For schools unable to attend the sessions in Bowling Green, regional Super Saturday Workshops will be held at Lafayette High School in Lexington as well as Johnson Central High School on Oct. 30.
For information about the Super Saturday Workshop or other forensics events, contact Judy Woodring at (270) 745-6340 or visit the WKU Forensics website at http://www.wku.edu/forensics.
