WKU Forensics Team Wins September 20, 2004 Western closed out the final round of parliamentary debate to take both first and second places in the event at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind. Western placed ahead of the University of Akron and Indiana University in individual events and ahead of Notre Dame and Central Michigan in debate sweepstakes. Twenty-seven members of the WKU team competed in the Sept. 17-19 tournament with the following students placing in the final rounds: Jennifer Purcell, a senior from Lewisville, Texas, tournament champion in Lincoln-Douglas debate, top speaker in Lincoln-Douglas debate, co-tournament champion in parliamentary debate (with partner Joelle Perry), tournament champion in impromptu speaking, fourth in extemporaneous speaking. Chris Brasfield, a Bowling Green junior, tournament champion in both dramatic interpretation and persuasive speaking; second in duo interpretation (with Ashley Brasfield), second in programmed oral interpretation, second in individual events quadrathon. Joelle Perry, a Florence sophomore, co-tournament champion in parliamentary debate (with partner Jennifer Purcell), second place speaker award in parliamentary debate, semifinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate, second place speaker award in Lincoln-Douglas debate. Hannah Reliford, a Georgetown senior, co-tournament champion in parliamentary debate (with partner Caleb Williams), semifinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate, fourth place speaker award in Lincoln-Douglas debate. Nick Romerhausen, a junior from Evansville, Ind., tournament champion in communication analysis, third in persuasive speaking, fourth in impromptu speaking. Rebecca Simms, a Lebanon senior, second in poetry interpretation, second in programmed oral interpretation, second in persuasive speaking. Nicole Hawk, an Upton junior, third in impromptu speaking, fifth in extemporaneous speaking, eighth place speaker award in parliamentary debate, semifinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate. Jennifer Corum, an Auburn senior, semifinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate, octafinalist in parliamentary debate, 10th place speaker award in parliamentary debate. Ashley Brasfield, a Mayfield junior, second in duo interpretation (with Chris Brasfield), fourth in persuasive speaking. Courtney Wright, a junior from Evansville, Ind., second in after-dinner speaking, third in prose interpretation. Logan Scisco, a Danville freshman, second in extemporaneous speaking, octafinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate.
