Celebration Set For Oct. 24

Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University will host the eighth annual Jim Wayne Miller Celebration of Writing on Oct. 24.
The celebration which begins at 2 p.m. (central time) in room 103 of the Garrett Conference Center features readings from four members of the creative writing faculty; Tom Hunley (poetry); Nancy Roberts (fiction); Dale Rigby (non-fiction); and Jane Olmsted (fiction).
The reading will be followed by a reception and book signing in the Garrett lobby. Both events are free and open to the public.
The Celebration is sponsored by Potter College Dean's Office and the Creative Writing Committee of the English Department. The winners of the Jim Wayne Miller writing contest will be announced as well as the names of honorable mention recipients in poetry, fiction and non-fiction.
The annual writing celebration was first held in 1997 to honor Miller, a long-time Western faculty member and well-known poet, fiction, writer and essayist. He was a professor of German at Western from 1963 until his death in 1996. He also taught summer writing workshops throughout the Appalachian region.
