September 14, 2004

Bowling Green, Ky. - The Division of Extended Learning and Outreach (DELO) has partnered with the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce and its Workforce Development Committee to provide scholarships for successful completion of the Work Ethic Seal Program.

As a part of Western Kentucky University's ongoing commitment to business and industry, this partnership addresses the need to promote great work ethic among high school seniors. The Work Ethic Seal Program will begin with the graduating classes of 2005.

The Chamber will work with local high schools to help students better understand the importance of strong work ethic skills -- skills essential if students are to secure and maintain successful, meaningful employment. Students who enroll in the program must meet minimum standards set by existing business and industry and the workforce development committee.

Students who successfully meet the criteria will be eligible for consideration for one of four $1,000 scholarships to attend WKU.

A kick-off event for the Work Ethic Seal program is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sept. 23 at the Holiday Inn University Plaza Atrium. The public is invited.

For information, contact Manon Pardue, Division of Extended Learning and Outreach, at (270) 745-1919 or Daryl Judd, Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce Workforce Development Committee, at (270) 793-5523.
