October 05, 2004
Bowling Green, Ky. - A 29-year tradition of Western Kentucky University's award-winning photojournalism program continues this month in Marion County, Ky.
The Mountain Workshops, a weeklong documentary-style photojournalism and picture editing workshop, begins Oct. 18 in Lebanon with student photojournalists and professionals participating.
The Mountain Workshops began in 1976 when WKU students and faculty documented one-room schoolhouses in Kentucky and Tennessee. The workshop has evolved into documenting small towns in southcentral Kentucky and northern Tennessee and producing a book to exhibit the work of participants.
In recent years, the workshop has gone to an all-digital format and has added a multimedia show and website (www.mountainworkshops.org).
Instructors include professional photojournalists, writers and editors from the Courier-Journal, Lexington Herald-Leader, Messenger-Inquirer, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Rocky Mountain News, Providence Journal, Washington Post, Detroit News, Orlando Sentinel, St. Petersburg Times and National Geographic.
