WKYU-PBS Wins Award For October 04, 2004 The Special Achievement Award recognizes those stations nationally that generate net revenue through innovative ideas that are variations or expansions of current activities. Judging is conducted on the national level by the PBS Development Advisory Committee and considers planning, implementation, coordination with the station's overall marketing and strategic plan and effectiveness in reaching objectives. The Farmers National Bank Holiday Home Festival is an annual event held in November at the Sloan Convention Center in Bowling Green. The two-day event features a children's program, how-to demonstration, a gingerbread house contest and various vendors with holiday items and information. In accepting the award, Terry Reagan, director of development, acknowledged the "hard work and dedication of the entire staff in making this event successful." WKYU-PBS, the public television service of Western Kentucky University, was one of only six stations nationwide to be recognized for the 2004 award. This is the second Development Award given by PBS to WKYU. The first was also an Award for Special Achievement presented in 2001 for its work in basketball fund-raising. The 2004 Farmers National Bank Holiday Home Festival will be held Nov. 13 and 14 at the Sloan Convention Center in Bowling Green. Highlights include an appearance by Jay Jay The Jet Plane, the 2004 Gingerbread House Competition, and a record number of vendors.
