WKU To Observe 'Communities October 01, 2004 Information booths will be set up at three locations on Oct. 5 to distribute informational fliers and surveys on the WKU Shuttle. The booths will be at the Downing University Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Campbell Lane Bus Stop from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and the Bowling Green Community College at the South Campus from 9 a.m. to noon. Information from the surveys will be used to improve the shuttle service and students completing the surveys will be eligible for prize drawings. "We're going to use the day to promote the use of the shuttle system, particularly for commuters who find it difficult to find a parking space on campus," Dr. Jennifer Tougas, WKU's parking and transportation director, said. "I'm hoping that by sponsoring a 'Communities in Motion Day' we can create a positive environment in which students can learn about and try the service." Since 1995, the WKU Shuttle Service has grown from four drivers and three buses to 11 drivers and 10 buses. Each day the system carries more than 3,000 passengers over three day routes and one evening route. In addition, a "shopping shuttle" sponsored by the Student Government Association carries more than 300 students to area businesses each Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Tougas said the fee to use the two park-and-ride lots at Campbell Lane and the Center for Research and Development is $25 per year, $40 less than permits for on-campus parking.
