Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University’s Forensic Team was the tournament sweepstakes champion at the Jefferson State Camellia Classic/University of Alabama Swing Tournament in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
In the weekend tournament, Western finished ahead of the University of Florida and Clemson University.
Individual results are as follows:
Ryan Howell, a junior from Plymouth, Ind., tournament champion in prose interpretation, fourth place in programmed oral interpretation, fifth in poetry interpretation in the Jefferson State portion; tournament champion in prose interpretation, third in after dinner speaking, fourth in programmed oral interpretation in the Alabama portion.
Natalie Sintek, a freshman from Eagan, Minn., tournament champion in dramatic interpretation, second in duo interpretation (with partner Lydia Nelson) in the Jefferson State portion; second in duo interpretation (with Nelson), second in dramatic interpretation, fourth in programmed oral interpretation in the Alabama portion.
Joelle Perry, a Florence sophomore, third in impromptu speaking, third in extemporaneous speaking in the Jefferson State portion; tournament champion in extemporaneous speaking in the Alabama portion.
Adam Huegel, a freshman from Rosenberg, Texas, sixth in extemporaneous speaking in the Jefferson State portion; tournament champion in informative speaking, fifth in persuasive speaking in the Alabama portion.
Melissa Messer, a San Antonio sophomore, second in after dinner speaking in the Jefferson State portion; tournament champion in after dinner speaking in the Alabama portion.
Lydia Nelson, a sophomore from Carver, Mass., second in duo interpretation (with partner Natalie Sintek), fourth in prose interpretation, fifth in impromptu speaking in the Jefferson State portion; second in duo interpretation (with Sintek) in the Alabama portion.
Nicole Estenfelder, a Florence senior, second in communication analysis in the Jefferson State portion; second in communication analysis, sixth in poetry interpretation, and seventh in programmed oral interpretation in the Alabama portion.
Saeed Jones, a freshman from Lewisville, Texas, third in dramatic interpretation, sixth in prose interpretation in the Jefferson State portion; third in prose interpretation, fifth in programmed oral interpretation in the Alabama portion.
Courtney Wright, a junior from Evansville, Ind., second in prose interpretation, fifth in poetry interpretation in the Alabama portion.
Caitlin Drance, a Florence freshman, fifth in dramatic interpretation in the Jefferson State portion; fifth in dramatic interpretation in the Alabama portion.
This weekend the WKU debaters will travel to Longview Community College for the Central States Invitational. The WKU Forensics coaching staff, in cooperation with the Kentucky High School Speech League, Inc., with host regional speech workshops for high school students at Lafayette High School (Lexington) and Johnson Central High School.
