WKU Debaters Win At
Ball State Tournament

Bowling Green, Ky. - Six members of the Western Kentucky University Debate Team traveled to Ball State University during fall break weekend to compete in an invitational parliamentary debate tournament that drew 82 teams from across the United States.
The team of Caleb Williams, a senior from Lewisville, Texas, and Hannah Reliford, a Georgetown senior, won the championship round on a 5-0 decision against Patrick Henry College in Virginia.
The team of Joelle Perry, a Florence sophomore, and Jennifer Purcell, a senior from Lewisville, Texas, was second seed in the tournament after preliminary rounds but lost in the quarterfinals on a split decision. Purcell was also named fourth-place speaker out of 163 competitors.
Novices Chad Meadows, an Owensboro freshman, and Ashley Burgdorf, a freshman from Evansville, Ind., went 3-3 in varsity competition.
The WKU Forensics Team will resume competition Oct. 15-17 at Creighton University and Tennessee State University.
