Construction Project To Cause
Changes In Big Red Way
October 14, 2004
Bowling Green, Ky. - Access to portions of Big Red Way will change on Monday as the next phase of a utility upgrade project begins.
Big Red Way from Center Street to Schneider Drive will be closed to through traffic as crews install new underground utility channels. The work from Dogwood Drive to Schneider Drive is expected to take two weeks.
There will be no access to Big Red Way from 15th Street, however there will be access from Center Street. Big Red Way will become a two-way street from Schneider Drive to Center Street to allow access to the Schneider and Wetherby parking lots and the Fine Arts Center access drive.
Parallel parking for "B" permit holders in that section of Big Red Way will be eliminated, resulting in the loss of 35 spaces. Students with "B" permits will still be able to park in the Capitol and Center Street lots. Additional faculty/staff parking is available in the Felts Lot.
A map detailing the changes and a detour from 15th Street to the southern end of Big Red Way is available online at www.wku.edu/news/index.html.
In addition to the utility upgrade, crews will be installing a center median in Big Red Way that will include enhanced street lighting. Additional changes in traffic patterns can be expected over the next several months as the project continues north on Big Red Way to 15th Street.
