WKU Forensics Team Continues Debate
Winning Streak, Wins Two Other
Tournaments, 17 Individual Championships

Bowling Green, Ky. - Members of the Western Kentucky University Forensics Team traveled to four tournaments Nov. 19-21 and returned with sweepstakes championships from three events and 17 individual championships.

The WKU debaters maintained their undefeated season by winning their seventh consecutive tournament at Century College's National Parliamentary Tournament of Excellence Preview in Minnesota. The team captured four of eight quarterfinal slots on the way to the tournament championship in Lincoln-Douglas debate. Team members captured three of four semifinal spots before closing out the final round of parliamentary debate.

The individual events squad won both the Louisiana State University-Shreveport/Louisiana Tech Swing and the Berea College/Cumberland College Swing. A third group of competitors placed third at Illinois State University's MAFL No. 4 and second at Bradley University's MAFL No. 5, sponsored by the Mid-American Forensic League.

Luke Gilbert, a freshman from Talbott, Tenn., tournament champion in dramatic interpretation and duo interpretation (with partner Beth Berger) in the Cumberland portion; sixth in dramatic interpretation in the Berea portion.

Melissa Messer, a San Antonio sophomore, tournament champion in persuasive speaking in the Cumberland portion; second in persuasive speaking, fourth in impromptu speaking in the Berea portion.

Barry Fields, a Bowling Green sophomore, third in informative speaking, fifth in impromptu speaking in the Cumberland portion; tournament champion in informative speaking in the Berea portion.

Jacqueline Adams, a Bowling Green sophomore, sixth in dramatic interpretation in the Cumberland portion; tournament champion in dramatic interpretation in the Berea portion.

Beth Berger, a Lexington freshman, tournament champion in duo interpretation (with partner Luke Gilbert), sixth in poetry interpretation in the Cumberland portion.

Caitlin Drance, a Florence freshman, third in duo interpretation (with partner Nicole Estenfelder), third in poetry interpretation, fifth in dramatic interpretation in the Cumberland portion; second in dramatic interpretation, sixth in duo interpretation (with Estenfelder) in the Berea portion.
