Monica Burke Honored For
Multicultural Efforts

November 11, 2004

Bowling Green, Ky. - Dr. Monica Burke, associate director of Western Kentucky University's Office of Diversity Programs, has been honored by the Southern Association of College Student Affairs.

Dr. Burke received the Bobby E. Leach Award this week at the organization's conference in Chattanooga, Tenn.

The award recognizes a student affairs professional or graduate student who has contributed significantly to the development of multicultural relations on a college or university campus.

"To be recognized among my peers is one of the highest honors that I have ever received," she said. "My efforts to promote multicultural relations and prepare our students for a changing, global society have been a consistent goal of mine since arriving on the Hill.

"I truly believe that embracing diversity fosters mutual respect, promotes personal growth and strengthens our society. Of course, this award is also a positive reflection for Western, the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Services, and the Office of Diversity Programs."
