Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University Police have arrested an 18-year-old WKU student in connection with the theft of computers and computer equipment.

William Simmons, 18, of Cadiz, was arrested Wednesday on two unrelated charges: theft under $300 and receiving stolen property over $300, according to WKUPD Det. Mike Dowell. Simmons was lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail.

Dowell said officers were acting on a warrant charging Simmons with stealing a book from the WKU Library. Police had also received a Crime Stoppers tip that Simmons was involved in the theft of computers and other equipment. After interviewing Simmons, Dowell said police discovered an Epson video projector, a computer, two monitors and a large number of computer parts in Simmons room in Pearce-Ford Tower.

"We think many of these items may have been taken from computer labs," Dowell said. He said the investigation is continuing and that additional charges and additional arrests are anticipated.

"We're asking anyone who might have information about these thefts to call us," Dowell said. The WKUPD telephone number is (270) 745-2548.
