Bowling Green, Ky. - The Bowling Green Community College of Western Kentucky University will host a SimMan training session for educators and medical personnel next week.

About 50 participants are expected for "Simulation Hands On," a Laerdal SimMan User's Group Meeting on May 20-21 at WKU's South Campus. Laerdal is a leading supplier of emergency medicine products.

The SimMan robot is a computerized patient simulator that gives students a realistic learning experience. The community college's nursing program began using the equipment last fall for classroom instruction and for training emergency personnel.

Next week's two-day meeting will focus on developing new curriculum and building scenarios that incorporate the capabilities of SimMan.

SimMan offers students the opportunity to deal with emergency treatment for a variety of situations ranging from smallpox to automobile accidents. The equipment also can be used to train personnel developing Homeland Security programs.
