Receives Research Award

Bowling Green, Ky. - Colin Abernethy, an assistant professor in Western Kentucky University's Department of Chemistry, has received a Cottrell College Science Award from Research Corporation.

Dr. Abernethy received $39,672 for his research project "N-heterocyclic carbene complexes of early transition metals in high oxidation states."

He was among 51 scientists receiving awards totaling $1.8 million for research in cutting-edge areas of science.

Cottrell College Science Awards are awarded on the basis of scientific originality, significance, feasibility and the ability of the institutional environment to sustain the activity. The awards challenge faculty to explore new areas of science, to make new discoveries that contribute to their discipline, to initiate new research programs and to involve undergraduate students.
