May 20, 2004

Bowling Green, Ky. - Officials from Bowling Green, Warren County and Western Kentucky University dedicated a new Bowling Green entrance sign on Cemetery Road on Wednesday afternoon.

The brick sign, located on Cemetery Road at Indian Hills Drive, welcomes motorists to Bowling Green, home of Western Kentucky University. Exit 26 has become the primary entrance to campus from Interstate 65.

"This is a great addition to our community," said Rick Wilson, chairman of the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce.

City commissioner Dan Hall, representing the City of Bowling Green, called the sign "a wonderful welcome mat" for the community and for the University.

"Western Kentucky University always goes above and beyond in making our community a better place to live," said County Attorney Amy Milliken, who represented Warren County government at the ceremony.

The sign was completed with private funding and in-kind contributions. It was a joint effort between Western, Operation Pride, the Kentucky Department of Transportation and the Greenways Commission as a part of the Cemetery Road Corridor Project.

WKU President Gary Ransdell thanked the groups involved in creating the new entrance. "This project is a great example of what can happen when people come together to make things happen," he said.
