WKU's Public Radio June 24
May 18, 2004
Bowling Green, Ky. - Bob Edwards. His integrity, intelligence and soothing baritone have inspired millions of listeners. As one of NPR's longtime hosts, he helped create the network's signature
sound. Now, in a new book, "Edward R. Murrow and the Birth of Broadcast Journalism," Edwards explores the legacy of another great pioneer in broadcast journalism.
As part of his national book tour, Edwards will visit Bowling Green and Western's Public Radio on June 24.
A book signing will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the atrium of the Holiday Inn University Plaza in Bowling Green. This event is free and open to the public and copies of Edward's new book will be available for purchase.
At 2 p.m., Edwards will be the featured guest on Western's Public Radio.
At 6 p.m. at the Sloan Convention Center, complete with historic audio clips, Edwards will bring to life the major stories Murrow covered the Blitz, bombing raids over Berlin, the liberation of Buchenwald and red-baiting by Sen. Joe McCarthy, as well as the ups and downs of Murrow's career at CBS.
In his evening appearance, Edwards also will reminisce on his own career, with audio highlights from his quarter-century as host of NPR's Morning Edition, and will talk about his new role as a senior correspondent for NPR News. A question-and-answer session and book signing will follow.
Tickets for the evening appearance, which includes a barbecue buffet meal, are $20 in advance or $25 at the door and are available by calling Western's Public Radio at 800-599-9598. Books will also be available for purchase.
Edwards' visit to Bowling Green and Western's Public Radio is sponsored by Bank One, with additional support from the Law Firm of Wyatt, Tarrant & Combs. "Bob's return to his native Kentucky and visit to Bowling Green is a great opportunity for him and our community," said Bank One Vice President and Banking Center Manger Scott Thornhill.
