Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University's American Advertising Federation Chapter was named first runner-up recently in the 5th District AAF Student Competition in Charleston, W.Va.

In the contest, sponsored by Florida Tourism, students created an integrated communications plan that included an advertising campaign, media buys and a public relations program to attract tourists to Florida.

WKU student presenters (all seniors) were Brad Arterburn of Scottsville, Amelia Farmer of Fisherville, Jill Jackson of Frankfort, Susan O'Connell of Hardinsburg and Larry Perrault of Bowling Green.

Mark Simpson, an associate professor of advertising, traveled with the team. "The students worked very hard to create something we are all very proud of," Simpson said.

WKU's advertising program, part of the School of Journalism and Broadcasting, has participated in the AAF event for the past 16 years. "We are looking forward to showing off our skills at next year's competition," said Crystal Davis, president of WKU's student AAF chapter.

The AAF is a national organization that incorporates college chapters as well as agencies, media companies and local advertising clubs to ensure the preservation and progression of advertising. It honors student achievements and professional excellence.
