Cinergy Executive To Speak March 26, 2004 James E. Rogers, CEO of the Cincinnati-based energy utility company for 15 years, will address the importance of education and training for business, industry and the community April 9 at the Carroll Knicely Conference Center of WKU's South Campus. The luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m. DELO, Western's Division of Extending Learning and Outreach, has brought together 10 campus units into one organization to deliver credit and non-credit educational opportunities to the region. "The purpose of this event is to highlight the services of the various subunits, whether it is customized training programs, degree offerings or the need for mediated instruction," said Dr. Audrey Anderson, interim dean. "The Division of Extended Learning and Outreach was created to enhance the outreach mission of the University. The coalition of these units bring a powerful force to bear on the delivery of educational programs beyond the boundaries of the home campus," Dr. Anderson said. Partnering is the theme of DELO's Inaugural Showcase and Luncheon, scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. April 9 at the Carroll Knicely Conference Center on Nashville Road. "Partnering with Industry: Credit through Innovation" is the title of a pre-luncheon workshop from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. "Partnering for Economic Development: Agritourism in Kentucky" is the title of a post-luncheon workshop from 1:15 p.m. to 2 p.m. From 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., exhibits of the various DELO units will be on display at the Carroll Knicely Conference Center. The WKU units brought together by DELO include: Carroll Knicely Conference Center, Carroll Knicely Institute for Economic Development, Center for Training and Development, Continuing Education, Correspondence Study, Extended Campus Services (formerly Distance Learning), Distance Education (formerly Distributed Learning), Extended Campuses (Glasgow, Owensboro, Elizabethtown/Fort Knox), Small Business Development Center and Summer Sessions. Tickets for the luncheon are $25 each or $125 for a table of seven. There's no charge for the workshops. Registration deadline is April 2. For information, contact DELO at (270) 745-1900.
