Classical Music Month Poetry June 04, 2004 Winners in the seventh and eighth grade were: Alison Burden, first, and Johnathon Carden, second. Both are students at Ohio County Middle School. Winners in the ninth through 12th grade were: Tressa Tullis, a student at Greenwood High School, first, and Beth Murray, a student at LaRue County High School, second. The contest offered students in grades seven though 12 a chance to participate in an interdisciplinary project integrating classical music and creative writing. All middle and high school students in the listening area were invited to enter by writing a poem inspired by one of two pieces of classical music. The musical selections were featured throughout April on Western's Public Radio. The contest is an annual event held in April, which is Classical Music Month. Winning poems will be published in the monthly program guide Choice. First- and second-place winners are chosen in two grade categories and received $200 or $100 respectively in savings bonds. This is the ninth year of the contest and is sponsored again by the Law Firm of Harned, Bachert and Denton of Bowling Green. Western's Public Radio Service includes WKYU-FM in Bowling Green, WDCL-FM in Somerset, WKPB-FM in Henderson/Owensboro and WKUE-FM in Elizabethtown.
