WKU Research In Spotlight June 14, 2004 Seven businesses that have received Small Business Innovative Research Awards to work on reducing arsenic and mercury contamination were recognized at a poster session and product expo. WKU researchers are working with two of the groups. Dr. Cathleen Webb, chemistry department head, is working with HydroTech Engineering and the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology on a project titled "Limestone-Based Material for Arsenic Removal from Drinking Water." Dr. Wei-Ping Pan, director of the Institute for Combustion Science and Environmental Technology, is working with Sorbent Technology on a project titled "A Low-Cost, High-Temperature Mercury Sorbent for Coal-Fired Power Plants."
