Bowling Green, Ky. - More than 90 seventh- and eighth-graders from Clinton and Wayne counties will be visiting Western Kentucky University next week for Gear Up Summer College.

The camps, sponsored by the South Central Kentucky Area Health Education Center and the Gear Up program in Clinton County, will give students a taste of college life. Gear Up is a grant-funded program that encourages children to apply themselves in high school and to pursue postsecondary education.

Gear Up Summer College is divided into two camps -- June 21-22 and June 23-24. Both camps have 46 students participating.

Activities include a campus tour, a visit to the student radio station, a print making workshop and tour at the Kentucky Museum, a team building activity, and a program by Kids on the Block as well as classes on water and environmental health, food preparation/food safety, textile design/print, CPR for family and friends, and basics about birds.

Sessions will be conducted at Mass Media and Technology Hall, Academic Complex, Kentucky Building and Science and Technology Hall.
