Dr. Julia Hare Featured January 07, 2004 Dr. Hare, one of the country's leading motivational specialists, is a co-founder of The Black Think Tank and is the author of numerous books, including "How to Find and Keep a BMW (Black Man Working)." She will speak during the King Day convocation that begins at 11 a.m. at WKU's Van Meter Auditorium. "Dr. Hare's lectures focus on social and political improvement for African Americans. That's a message we want our students and our community to hear," said C.J. Woods, director of WKU's Office of Diversity Programs. Woods is encouraging student groups, faculty, staff and community members to participate in King Day activities, which include a memorial breakfast and unity march. "The holiday celebration is for everyone," Woods said. "The civil rights era and the work of Martin Luther King Jr. stretched beyond cultural and ethnic boundaries. We want everyone to participate in this event." The holiday activities in Bowling Green include the following: 7:30 a.m., Memorial Breakfast at Girls Inc. of Bowling Green, 260 Scott Way. The speaker will be the Rev. Joe Sullivan of Seventh Street Baptist Church. Tickets are $6 and are available at Housing Authority of Bowling Green, Bowling Green Human Rights Commission and State Street Church Baptist Church. 10 a.m., Unity March from the Justice Center to Van Meter Hall. Community and civic organizations as well as student groups are encouraged to participate. 11 a.m., Convocation, Van Meter Auditorium. Admission is free. A reception will follow at the Garrett Conference Center lobby. The King Day events are sponsored by the Martin Luther King Planning Committee of Bowling Green, which includes the Office of Diversity Programs, WKU's Campus Activities Board, the local chapter of the NAACP, Bowling Green Human Rights Commission, Housing Authority of Bowling Green and Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana.
