WKU'S Gerontology Minor January 28, 2004 The interdisciplinary program on aging is moving from the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences to the College of Health and Human Services. A campus kickoff event to celebrate the transition is scheduled for 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Feb. 4 in Academic Complex, room 213. "What we're hoping to do is give the minor more focus, grow the program both at the undergraduate and graduate level and take advantage of the opportunities to link with community programs,"said Dr. Susan Wesley, assistant professor of social work and gerontology program coordinator. Western's faculty and students in the gerontology program are positioned to address the numerous issues facing an aging population, including health care, recreation, housing, Medicare, Social Security and budget constraints, she said. Among other goals are increasing research by faculty and students and developing a graduate certificate in gerontology. The 21-hour minor complements traditional academic majors such as psychology, sociology, social work, recreation, economics, biology, health care administration, nutrition, speech therapy and nursing.
