WKU Geologists Pass National January 21, 2004 By passing this two-part exam, they have reciprocity to practice geology in 24 states, including Kentucky. The ASBOG exam, which they took in Frankfort in October 2003, is essentially equivalent to a national test for geologists desiring to be licensed in order to practice in the public interest. Twenty-nine states require geologists who desire to practice geology in the public interest to pass this exam. Kuehn and May now have first-hand experience of what students will face when they take the exam. The professors are using their experience to aid in realigning the geology curriculum, as the ASBOG exam generally reflects market trends for various sub-disciplines such as petroleum geology, environmental geology, hydrogeology or engineering geology. Kuehn and May becoming registered professional geologists is in line with the mission of making WKU nationally prominent and the best comprehensive university in Kentucky.
