WKU Student Honored In Hearst Broadcasting Competition

Bowling Green, Ky. - A Western Kentucky University student has received an award in the first broadcast news competition in the 44th annual Hearst Journalism Awards Program.

Mark A. Brown, a Scottsville senior, finished ninth and received a $500 scholarship in the radio features competition.

WKU's School of Journalism and Broadcasting, which will receive a matching award, is in 10th place after the first of two radio and television competitions. Arizona State University is first in the Intercollegiate Broadcast News Competition with final winners to be named in April.

The Hearst Journalism Awards Program consists of writing, photojournalism and broadcast news competitions. In the past five years, Western has won the overall intercollegiate title twice, placed second once and finished third twice.
