January 22, 2004

Bowling Green, Ky. - Dr. Jenks Britt, head of the Department of Agriculture at Western Kentucky University, is hosting corn buyers from Mexico this week.

The group, which is visiting the area Thursday and Friday, is made up of dairymen and feed mill co-op members from Queretaro, Qro., Mexico.

Dr. Britt has been working with the group for almost 10 years and visits the Mexico farms about three times a year. WKU students often accompany Britt on the visits to Mexico.

The corn buying delegation will visit large corn growers in Warren and Logan counties in Kentucky.

Dr. Britt hopes the group can form a long-term relationship with Kentucky farmers so they can purchase quality corn directly from Kentucky farmers thus giving the farmers, rather than large export companies, a premium for their Kentucky grown corn.

For more information, contact Dr. Jenks Britt at (270) 745-3151. More WKU news is available on the World Wide Web at www.wku.edu. If you'd like to receive WKU news via E-mail, send a message to WKUNews@wku.edu.
