Bowling Green Youth Honored August 02, 2004 Pitcock's story about a nearsighted cowboy who gets his eyes fixed is one of 120 stories to be featured on the Reading Rainbow PBS kids webpage this fall. The Pine Tree Home School first-grader's story was pegged for national recognition after she received a first place in the local Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators contest sponsored by WKYU-PBS. More than 100 youngsters from throughout Kentucky participated in the contest last spring. The contest, sponsored annually by Western's Public Television and Barnes & Noble, encourages kindergarten through third-grade students to write and illustrate their own stories. The entries are judged locally, and winning entries compete nationally. To see Hannah Pitcock's story and to learn more about the Reading Rainbow contest go to www.pbskids.org/readingrainbow.
