WKU Geology Graduate Milam, a doctoral candidate in geology with the Planetary Geosciences Institute at the University of Tennessee, has been honored by the Geological Society of America and has been featured in an issue of Smithsonian Museum's Air and Space magazine. Milam co-authored a poster/paper with Dr. Kenneth Kuehn, a WKU Distinguished Professor, titled "Central Uplift Formation at the Middlesboro Impact Structure, Kentucky, USA" and presented the poster March 15-19 at the 35th international Lunar and Planetary Science Conference in Texas. He will receive the GSA's Stephen E. Dwornik Award for the poster. The honor includes a plaque, a $500 award and a banquet hosted by the GSA's Planetary Geology Division. Additionally, Milam is featured in "Crater Face" by Tony Reichhardt, an article about meteorite impacts in the United States published in the March/April issue of Air and Space magazine (www.airspacemag.com). Milam gave the writer a tour and explanation of the Middlesboro meteor impact site visited by the Kentucky Society of Professional Geologists field trip in September 2003.
