WKU Regents Approve April 30, 2004 "You've always been not only innovative, but you've always had the foresight to put academics first," Regent Kristen Bale of Glasgow said. The board voted to increase Dr. Ransdell's salary from $218,000 to $250,000. In other business, the board: *Named two faculty members Distinguished University Professors. They are Michael J. Seidler and Joseph L. Trafton, both professors in the Department of Philosophy and Religion. Distinguished University Professor is the highest honor placed on faculty members at Western. *Approved a plan to attract highly qualified non-resident students. The plan includes the expansion of the Tuition Incentive Program, which allows non-resident students in designated areas to attend for resident tuition plus 25 percent. The new TIP counties are Pinellas, Manatee, Hillsborough and Polk in Florida; Cook, Kane, Lake, McHenry and DeKalb in Illinois; and Fulton, Gwinnett, Cobb and Clayton in Georgia. That same tuition rate will also be extended to students who have an ACT score of at least 24 and a high school grade-point average of at least 3.4. *Approved emeritus status for the following retired faculty members: Richard Troutman, Ruby Meador, George Masannat, James Wesolowski and Joseph Uveges. *Approved an honorary doctorate for U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell, R.-Ky. Sen. McConnell will be awarded the degree at spring commencement on May 8. *Approved the restructuring of several academic departments. The Department of Modern Languages and Intercultural Studies will be divided into the Department of Modern Languages and the Department of Folk Studies and Anthropology. The Department of Accounting and Finance will be divided into the Department of Accounting and the Department of Finance. The Department of Economics and Marketing will be divided into the Department of Economics and the Department of Marketing. The Department of Management and Computer Information Systems will be divided into the Department of Management and the Department of Computer Information Systems. *Authorized Dr. Ransdell to complete the acquisition of properties at 1780, 1770 and 1660 Normal Drive. *Approved the creation of a Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation in the Gordon Ford College of Business.
