WKU's Spring Commencement
Scheduled For May 8

Bowling Green, Ky. - About 1,400 students are expected to participate in Western Kentucky University's 155th Commencement on May 8.
The ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. at L.T. Smith Stadium.
The University will confer degrees to 1,916 May and August graduates 170, associate's degrees, 1,407 bachelor's degrees and 339 master's degrees.
Western will present an honorary doctorate to U.S. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.). Since 1997, Sen. McConnell has helped secure some $35 million in federal appropriations for initiatives at Western and millions of dollars more for initiatives at other Kentucky higher education institutions.
Sen. McConnell and WKU President Gary Ransdell will make commencement remarks.
Before the Class of 2004 graduates, Western will recognize the Class of 1954. Members of the class will return to campus May 7-8 for the annual Golden Anniversary Club reunion.
The ceremony also will include the commissioning of Army ROTC cadets as second lieutenants and recognition of honor graduates and faculty award winners.
WKYU-PBS, Western's public television, will broadcast the ceremony live with a replay at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 9.
Commencement rain plan
In the event of inclement weather, commencement will be held as two ceremonies at Diddle Arena. If weather appears questionable, an announcement will be posted on the WKU website (www.wku.edu) or you may call 1-888-CALL-WKU, (270) 745-0111 or 745-3351 at 7:30 a.m. May 8.
The rain plan calls for a 9:30 a.m. ceremony that would include the Gordon Ford College of Business, College of Education and Behavioral Sciences, Ogden College of Science and Engineering and Graduate Studies; and a 1:30 p.m. ceremony that would include Potter College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, College of Health and Human Services, Bowling Green Community College and Interdisciplinary Studies.
