Bowling Green, Ky. - The 2003 Mark of Excellence Yearbook Contest Awards were presented Friday at Western Kentucky University's Journalism Scholars Day.

Class AA
Taylor County High School's Cardinal, adviser Troy Benningfield: first for best yearbook, best copy, best layout/design, best advertising, best cover/theme; second for best photography.

Webster County High School's Trojan, adviser Amy Ramage: first for best photography; second for best yearbook, best copy, best layout/design, best cover/theme.

McLean County High School's Unity, adviser Teresa Woodburn: third for best cover/theme, best advertising.

Elizabethtown High School's Etonian, adviser Julie Smith: second for best copy, best layout/design; third for best yearbook, best photography, best advertising; honorable mention for best cover/theme.

Edmonson County High School's Wildcat, adviser Phyllis Miller: second for best advertising; third for best yearbook, best copy, best layout/design; honorable mention for best cover/theme.

Bowling Green High School's Beacon, adviser Tricia Crocker: first for best yearbook, best layout/design, best photography, best cover/theme; second for best copy; honorable mention for best advertising.

Hopkinsville High School's Orange and Black, adviser Reka Babb: first for best advertising; second for best photography; third for best yearbook, best copy, best layout/design, best cover/theme.

Logan County High School's Cougar, adviser Bonnie Hartley: third for best photography.

South Oldham High School's Draconium, adviser Cindi Reedy: first for best copy, best cover/theme; second for best yearbook, best layout/design, best photography, best advertising.

Union County High School's Unionaire, adviser Nancy Brinkley: second for best cover/theme; third for best layout/design, best advertising; honorable mention for best photography.

Barren County High School's The Trojan, adviser Kelley Ross: first for best copy; third for best layout/design, best advertising; honorable mention for best yearbook.

Daviess County High School's Echoes, adviser Gail Kirkland: first for best cover/theme; second for best yearbook, best layout/design, best photography; third for best advertising; honorable mention for best copy.

DuPont Manual High School's The Crimson, adviser Betsey Kandle: first for best yearbook, best layout/design, best advertising; second for best copy, best cover/theme; third for best photography.

Graves County High School's Aquila, adviser Kym Rickman: first for best photography; second for best advertising; third for best yearbook, best copy, best cover/theme; honorable mention for best layout/design.

Greenwood High School's Ebullience, adviser Rachel Abrams: third for best cover/theme; honorable mention for best copy, best advertising.

More than 300 students attended Journalism Scholars Day at Western's new Mass Media and Technology Hall.

The conference, a tradition at Western since the 1970s, is co-sponsored by the School of Journalism and Broadcasting, the Kentucky High School Media Partnership, Western's Chapter of Society of Professional Journalists and the Kentucky High School Journalism Association.
